Special Education – What Are Positive Behavioral Supports, and Can They Help My Child?

Your child with autism or ADHD behavior problems in school? Your school district to continue to punish your child, instead of finding a way to reduce their negative behavior? In this article the use of positive behavior changes are supported to increase positive behaviors and decreasing negative behavior.

Punishment only works in the short term to reduce negative behavior. Positive changes in behavior support research and best practices to change the behavior of a child for the duration.

A few things to consider:

Develop, in my experience for many children with disabilities negative behavior by frustration with their teachers. It is an important link between learning disabilities and behavioral problems. If your child has a negative behavior in school, you must investigate and ensure that academics, they are taught in their academic level. Make sure that any changes in the curriculum in your child’s Individual Education Plan to the Plan (IEP) is included in the price.

In addition, children with negative behaviors acceptable new behaviors to be taught to replace the negative ones. Identify other appropriate behaviors that can be taught to perform the same function for the child. Make sure that any new behavior, your child will be taught, are listed in their IEP.

Support by focusing on positive behavior change, rather than punishment, you can help your child improve their positive behavior. This will in turn benefit from their education and life!
